By the time installation day arrives, most of the work is already done. Your slab is selected, the templating is complete, and your countertops have been fabricated to fit your space. Installation day is where it all comes together. Knowing what to expect makes the day go smoothly.
Before the crew arrives
Clear everything off your existing counters and out of the sink area. If we are removing old countertops, empty the lower cabinets near the sink and cooktop so the crew has room to work. Keep pets and foot traffic out of the kitchen for the day. If you have a plumber or electrician handling disconnections and reconnections, coordinate their timing ahead of the install.
Removing the old countertops
If your project includes tear out, that happens first. The crew removes the existing tops carefully, though older counters sometimes come out in pieces, especially tile or laminate that was glued down. Some drywall touch up behind the backsplash area is normal after removal.
Setting the new countertops
The crew brings in your fabricated pieces and dry fits them before anything is secured. This is where precise fabrication pays off. The pieces should drop into place and line up cleanly. Once the fit is confirmed, the countertops are leveled, shimmed where needed, and secured to the cabinets.
Seams and sealing
If your layout requires seams, the crew joins the pieces and fills the seam with a color matched epoxy, then smooths it so it sits flush. Seams on natural stone are visible up close by nature, but a well placed and well matched seam is subtle. If your material needs sealing, that is applied as part of the process.
Sink, cooktop, and plumbing
Undermount sinks are typically attached during installation. Final plumbing hookup, faucet installation, and cooktop reconnection are usually handled by your plumber or electrician after the stone is set, since the adhesives need time to cure.
Final walkthrough
Before the crew leaves, walk the kitchen with them. Check the fit, the seams, the edges, and the overall look. Ask any questions while they are still on site. This is the moment to point out anything that does not look right.
After installation
Give the adhesives and any sealer time to cure before heavy use, and follow the care guidance for your specific material. A quick wipe down with the right cleaner keeps everything looking new.
